Trick-or-treating is a yearly tradition for many families living in the new homes around DFW. It’s a great time to bond and create sweet memories for years to come. To make sure that you stay safe and have fun, Normandy Homes is sharing 4 trick-or-treating safety tips.

1. Plan a Route in Advance

No matter how well you know your neighborhood, it’s easy to get turned around in the dark. This is especially true when you are continuously crossing the street and ringing doorbells. By planning your route beforehand, you can avoid long paths that may lead to a much later night than intended. Make sure to choose a route that you’re familiar with to avoid getting lost during the excitement.

2. Stay Well Lit

Trick-or-treating at night is fun but can also be risky. Be sure to stay well-lit for the safety of yourself and others. Glow sticks are a great way to embellish a costume and make sure that you are visible to cars and pedestrians on the street. Flashlights are also a great way to illuminate the ground to avoid tripping or stepping on something unpleasant.

3. Avoid Masks

Many of the season’s newest costumes come with a trendy mask to polish off the look. While great for photos at the beginning of the evening, you might consider leaving them at home. Masks can obscure your vision and make it difficult to breathe. Instead, consider non-toxic makeup from your local Halloween shop to design your own unique look. 4. Check Your Candy

Even if you’ve kept an eye on your candy throughout the evening, make sure to double-check your haul at the end of the night. Make sure to dispose of any candy that appears to have been damaged, opened or suspicious. At the end of the day, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
