Build Your Home: The Stages of New Home Construction

Buying a home is an exciting journey, especially when it’s new construction built from the ground up. From choosing a lot and selecting your floorplan to deciding on design finishes, all the way to your final walk-through, the process can feel long with many steps along the way. That’s why it’s important to work with a trusted builder that can guide you through each step and provide timely communication to make building your new home a smooth experience. Here’s a sneak peek into how Normandy Homes puts thought and care into each stage of construction, with high-quality materials and impeccable construction standards to help your dreams take shape.

Key Stages of Construction

We simplify the construction process into eight key stages. From foundation to finish we give special care to each stage to ensure a quality-built home that will have enduring value.

Stage 1 – Foundation

The forms and in-ground plumbing are laid, and the slab of your home is set.

Stage 2 – Framing

Your house starts to take shape during this exciting phase. You see the walls go up and the roof and windows installed. We also wrap each Normandy home in a Zip System® as your new home’s weather barrier.

Stage 3 – Mechanical

At this stage, the critical items behind the walls are installed like the plumbing, electrical and HVAC. After this phase is complete, you will meet with the Community Construction Manager at your new home after the framing and installation of rough mechanicals to review the location of standard and upgraded items.

Stage 4 – Drywall

Once the mechanicals are in your home, we install drywall and tape and texture the walls.  We will also continue working on the exterior of your home to install brick and garage doors.

Stage 5 – Cabinets and Trim

Time to add doors, trim, as well as cabinets and countertops. It’s really starting to look like a home!

Stage 6 – Paint

Next comes paint for the interior and exterior of your new home. Once this is complete, your plumbing fixtures and lighting fixtures will be installed.

Stage 7 – Flooring

With your home nearly complete, we install flooring in your entire home.

Stage 8 – Final completion

Normandy community construction managers conduct quality inspections and work to resolve any outstanding items. We walk through your new home and conduct a Homeowner Orientation with you to demonstrate all home features and answer your questions.

Build times vary by community and could take anywhere from six to eight months or longer, depending on the area, community, options selected and stage of construction at the time of purchase. If you are looking to move into your home sooner, Normandy Homes has quick move-in homes available.
